Hear Parker Millsap’s Searing New Song ‘Fine Line’

Americana favorite’s electrified new album ‘Other Arrangements’ arrives May 4th

The last time we spoke with Parker Millsap, he was touring in the wake of 2016’s The Very Last Day, a folk album whose powerful, church-tent charisma shone a light on the singer’s roots in gospel music. Two years later, the 24-year-old Millsap is exploring new sounds. . .and making Other Arrangements.

His fourth album, Other Arrangements doubles down on an appreciation for old-school rock & roll and classic pop. Recorded with his road band during breaks in the group’s cross-country touring schedule, the album mixes Millsap’s voice – an otherworldly howl, shot through with equal parts Pentecostal punch and southern swagger – with faster tempos and bursts of electric guitar. The combination reaches a boiling point with the record’s kickoff single, “Fine Line.”

Raw and rhythmic, “Fine Line” finds its frontman wailing about a life spent on the edge, somewhere between sanity and chaos. “I might be slightly unnerving,” he sings during the song’s chorus, “but honey, I don’t bite – I’m just a little bloodthirsty.”

“I think rock & roll songs are a great place for any sort of lyrics,” says Millsap, who recorded the song’s electrified, guitar-heavy stomp on a pair of small, low-wattage amps. “This one is about maybe partying a little too hard, or about a rock and roll show, or maybe it’s about a vampire. I’m not sure yet.”
