Alabama Shakes Announce First Album in 11 Years

[Pitchfork]

I Must Be Dreaming is coming August 28

By Alex Suskind

We finally have details on Alabama Shakes’ long-rumored new album. I Must Be Dreaming, their first LP in 11 years, is coming August 28 via Island and will include the already-released tracks “American Dream” and “Another Life.” The next single, “I Feel Hope Coming,” drops this Friday.

In a statement, singer Brittany Howard said the album title “has a double meaning to it. It could be saying, ‘I must be dreaming, because the world is so fucking crazy right now.’ But it could also mean, ‘I must be dreaming, because the world is so incredibly beautiful.’ Both those things can be true at once.”

The Shakes (Howard, Heath Fogg, and Zac Cockrell) recorded the follow-up to 2015’s Sound & Color after reuniting for a surprise live set in December 2024. The trio have been touring on and off ever since, including their current trek, which runs through the end of September. Those dates, along with the tracklist and Dreaming artwork, can be found below.
