Portugal. The Man Earns First Alternative Songs No. 1 With ‘Feel It Still’

The track previously topped Adult Alternative Songs, marking the band’s first airplay leader.

After earning its first Billboard airplay chart No. 1 earlier this year, Portugal. The Man dons another chart crown, as “Feel It Still” climbs 2-1 on the Alternative Songs radio-based ranking (dated July 8).

“Feel” is the first Alternative Songs No. 1 for the Wasilla, Alaska, band in its fifth visit. (Portugal. The Man arrived with “People Say” on the Jan. 22, 2011-dated chart.) “Feel” had already become the quintet’s first Alternative Songs top 10, with the group’s previous best peak belonging to “Purple Yellow Red and Blue” (No. 15, 2013).

The band becomes the fourth act in 2017 to attain a first Alternative Songs No. 1 (of seven acts to reach the top of the chart), following Rag’n’Bone Man (“Human”), Judah & the Lion (“Take It All Back”) and The Revivalists (“Wish I Knew You”). Portugal. The Man differs from that crop, as the other three acts reigned with their first charted songs on the ranking.

Previously, “Feel” rose to No. 1 on the Adult Alternative Songs airplay survey (May 6), holding the top spot for nine consecutive weeks before deferring this week to Dan Auerbach’s “Shine on Me.” “Feel” reaches a new peak in audience on the all-rock-format Rock Airplay chart, holding at its No. 2 high with 12 million audience impressions in the week ending June 25, according to Nielsen Music. It’s also the band’s first charted song on the Billboard Hot 100, bowing at No. 89.

Woodstock, Portugal. The Man’s eighth studio album and first since 2013’s Evil Friends, concurrently debuts at new career bests of Nos. 5 and 7 on Alternative Albums and Top Rock Albums, respectively, with 17,000 equivalent album units (12,000 in pure sales). The set bows at No. 32 on the Billboard 200.
