Ambrosia Parsley’s ‘Make Me Laugh’ Is Love at the End of the World
By Luke O Neil
Ambrosia Parsley is asking a lover to make her laugh, in her new song, but it doesn’t sound like anything very funny is going on here. Despite its melancholy exterior, there’s a nugget of hopefulness to the smoky love-noir of “Make Me Laugh” from her Weeping Cherry LP out on Barbes Records on April 28. Or maybe it’s not about love at all.
“It’s about sharks and blood and shitty pictures,” the former Shivaree member, whose music has been tapped for films by directors like Quentin Tarantino and David O Russell.
“Lost honeybees, lost heads…(let’s have a drink!)… food shortages and knock knock jokes. A guy walks into a bar with a semi automatic… You know, just another song about the end of the world.”
She’ll perform at the Rockwood Music Hall in New York City on May 14.
