In 1994 Adam Green and Kimya Dawson met briefly at a coffeehouse in Bedford Hills, New York. 13 year old Green was singing his youthful songs of adolescent angst and 21 year old Dawson was reading some lame poems about having no friends. Needless to say, no sparks flew.
Months later, Kimya was hired as the useless manager at a record store in Mt Kisco, New York called Exile On Main Street. Adam worked as the wipe down table boy at neighbouring shop, Pizza Pizzazz. Being a big fan of the indie, Adam spent countless hours mesmerised by Kimya's numerous tales of the boys she made out with from bands in Olympia, Washington.
Adam would try to impress Kimya with homemade cassettes of his blatantly Nirvana influenced songs. After a while his stylings began to lean more in the direction of the Vanilla Ice / MC Hammer format and Kimya knew then that, with his boyish charm and her maternal...
